Social performance for projects on inhabited land
Terrain is the system project teams use to resettle, compensate and support the people affected by a project, and to answer their grievances. It keeps one register of people, households, places and assets, and follows each commitment from the census to the payment.
Six modules, one register
Census Household and asset census
Households, people and assets, with tokens issued in the field.
Accord Compensation
Entitlements, agreements and payments, with every amount verified.
Thrive Livelihood restoration
Livelihood restoration programmes and the people taking part.
Resolve Grievance management
Grievances from receipt to closure, with confidential complainants protected.
Engage Stakeholder engagement
Meetings, consultations and commitments to stakeholders.
Learn Training
Training sessions and who attended them.
The Terrain field app
Field teams record the census on Android tablets and phones, and on iPhone, even with no network: records are kept encrypted on the device and sent when a connection returns.
The app is used only by a project’s own staff. It is connected to a project once, with a setup QR code from that project’s administrator, and each person then signs in with the account the project gave them. There is no public sign-up.
To look around without an account, open demo mode: it runs on invented data and sends nothing.
People’s data, protected
Each client’s data stays in its own database, in the region the client chooses. Identity numbers are encrypted, shown masked, and every time someone reveals one it is recorded. Access follows each person’s role and the villages they work in.
